The town of Sanford is proposing two ordinances that will significantly
restrict the provision of mental health and substance abuse services in
Sanford Springvale area. We understand that they were prompted by the
potential start of a methadone clinic in the area but at this point the
ordinances are much more broadly written. The link to the ordinances is:
http://www.sanfordmaine.org/index.asp?Type=B_EV&SEC={3C392B3C-67F8-4797-
B999-214AB2CC4AE1}&DE={C292E1CC-5E87-4DFB-9FD3-1BA5ECE951F5}

There is a public hearing on the ordinances Tuesday Oct.7th at 7:00 p.m.
at the Sanford Town Hall.
Nothing is finalized yet and we understand some changes may have been
made as recently as yesterday. We are concerned about how broad the
ordinance is regarding any new substance abuse or mental health services
as well as possible restriction of any new service that current
providers in the Sanford area may want to provide in the future.
Representation and education related to substance abuse and mental
health services at the hearings would be helpful.
